Volleyball Update and Final!

The varsity volleyball team had an incredible season this year — no other way to say it.

We finished with an overall record of 38-3, ranked first in region, 2nd in state for 1A Private schools, and 24th in state overall. After winning the regional championship, we played Wesleyan in the first round of the state championship on Oct. 21 and won 3 sets to 2. After that, we beat Walker (in the Sweet 16 round) on Oct. 24 in 3 sets straight.

Next, we played Trinity Christian for the Elite Eight on Oct. 29 in a tight game and won 3 sets to 2. This was a real battle since Mary Miller, a major player and powerful hitter, injured her ankle in the second set. We had to improvise, substituting players who don't usually go in for the positions they had to play. However, we were ultimately successful and won.

After Trinity, we drove all the way to Atlanta on Halloween and played Holy Innocents Episcopal High School for the state semifinals. Unfortunately, they beat us here, in the Final Four round of the state championship, but we played extremely well, especially with an improvised lineup. Even in the end, we held strong and lost by only two points in the final set.

This season truly has been a spectacular experience, and I am so incredibly glad that I played this year. I’m so sad that Ali Rumpel, our senior, will be leaving this year to continue playing in college, but I’m thrilled to have the chance to play with all the sophomores and other juniors, as well as Coach Thomas next year. And to my team, if you’re reading this, thank you for literally the best season I could have asked for. You were all so sweet and supportive, and I love you all!
