Five Ways to Get Back Into a Sports Mood

While we are all stuck in our homes and there are no live sports, I have found five creative ways to keep myself entertained during the quarantine and bring back the joy of sports. For any sports fans out there, these might work for you, too!

1. Relive past memories.

This is the easiest and most effective way to rekindle the joy of sports. I have used YouTube to search my favorite games and plays. As you do this, you will find creators who make these particular videos for a living, and I suggest that you subscribe to your favorite channels/creators to know when they make a new video. This will help you find an easy source to get sports media and watch good videos. This strategy helps me remember the great moments of my favorite teams.

2. Watch sports movies.

This is a way for a person who really doesn’t keep up with current sports to watch some handsome human beings play sports. Streaming services like Disney+, Netflix, and Hulu have great selections of classic sports movies. The one I would most recommend is “Remember the Titans.” The film stars Denzel Washington with Ryan Gosling in a supporting role. The movie, based on a true story, is about a football team at a newly integrated school in Alexandria, Virginia in 1970 and how they come together and form a bond during the civil rights movement. I don’t want to spoil the plot, but it’s a must watch. It will help the average person get to know sports more and see their favorite actors on their own time.

3. Go outside (while maintaining social distancing).

This method will help the student-athletes stuck inside during quarantine and doing loads of school work. Since I am a golfer, I take a golf club and swing outside for a few minutes, just to escape. You can do this for many sports, including basketball, baseball, and more. It will also help boost your Vitamin D levels, as well as keeping the body balanced.

4. Get ready for next year.

This is the time where you can stay ahead of the competition. This could mean you watch films from last season during downtime, weight train at your house, and practice if possible. This will set you up to become a better athlete for the upcoming season. Doing as little as running around the block or throwing a baseball will put you ahead of other athletes who are using this as a time off.

5. Put down technology, pick up a book.

Pick up a book to get away from the screens. This can be a sports book or any book, for that matter. I have a book that helps me prepare mentally for golf and you can find any books on a wide range of topics from self-care to sports techniques on sites like Amazon, local bookstores, and many more.
