Volunteering at Butterfly Dreams Farm

April 5, 2019

Recently, I volunteered at a local therapeutic riding facility for special needs children called Butterfly Dreams. I love riding and caring for my horse, and I know how amazing horses are and how happy they make everyone. When I volunteered there, I saw how happy the kids were as soon as they began riding. Horses have a soft, kind way of making anyone feel better despite what is happening in their lives. My task was to lead the horses around the riding arena while the side-walkers made sure each rider was sitting up. Seeing how the kids would light up as they were able to feel that connection with the horse was amazing. Anyone who wants to volunteer will really enjoy their time there. Even if you don’t have horse experience, there are other ways to volunteer like being a side-walker, volunteering for a work day, and painting a wooden butterfly with the name of a child who is riding there. The kids are full of personality and absolutely love riding. This experience was truly incredible.
