May 15, 2018

The men’s and women’s tennis teams had a very successful season. Both teams made it to the final four of state and were highly ranked going into the state tournament. In the region tournament both teams played Wesleyan. The guys were able to win region, and the girls came close but ended as the runner up.

The first round of state was played at the Athens Tennis Center. Both teams had a difficult first round. The men’s team was split 2-2 with Hatton Abernathy securing the win for the third point. The women’s team had a similar situation later in the afternoon. The team was split 2-2 with Caroline Kuhnert securing the last point in a three set victory.

After not having home courts for the entire season, they were finally completed in time for both teams to play one match for the elite 8. In the elite 8 both teams came out strong and won 3-0 to advance to the final four.

Unfortunately, both fell in close matches. Overall, it was a very successful year for both teams. The three seniors, Emmaline Smith, Reed Barkley, and Caroline Kuhnert, are very happy to have ended their senior seasons in such a great way!
